Where knowledge lives is as important as our ability to access it. It is as much a feedback loop as it is a given piece of information and so it happens between people. The less 3rd party acknowledgment we need, the better we can cooperate. Imagine having to ask a server to be able to talk to a friend in a bar: sounds stupid? Well, many protocols work like this either passively or actively. The more complex they get, the more control is owned by the operators.
